  7. BGP Minutes
  8.  
  9. The Border Gateway Protocol Working Group met on Wednesday.  We
  10. discussed the following Agenda items:

  13.   1. Supporting default route in BGP.
  14.   2. Interaction between OSPF and BGP.
  15.   3. Inter-autonomous system multicast with BGP.
  16.   4. NEXT_HOP_SNPA path attribute.

  19. On (1) it was decided that the default route will be supported in BGP by
  20. announcing net 0.0.0.0.  Support for the default route in BGP is needed
  21. because some of the routers in MILNET have very tight memory
  22. constraints.  We expect to generate a document that will describe
  23. details of how default is supported in BGP, and what are the
  24. implications of generating and accepting detault route propagated via
  25. BGP.

  27. On (2) we discussed the document written by Kannan Varadhan.  John Moy
  28. agreed to pass all the comments produced during the meeting to the
  29. author of the document.  We expect to have an Internet Draft version of
  30. the document before the next IETF.

  32. On (3) Scott Brim agreed to generate an Internet Draft that will
  33. describe a specific approach for inter-AS multicast, and what are the
  34. implications of that approach on BGP.
  35.  
  36. On (4) we pointed out the need to clarify certain aspects of the
  37. document.  Once clarifications will be in place, the Working Group
  38. recommends to advance the document to a Proposed Internet Standard.
